The Joan Alexandria Hanson Page

Joan was born at 3:45 am on Mother's Day, May 9, healthy and happy at 7 lbs 9 oz.  She has been a quite easy baby so far. She started sleeping through the night off and on after just a couple of weeks, and enjoyed her first 8-hour slumber on Jun 20. 

Here she is at one week old, right after a hefty meal:

Eventually, Joan does seem to wake up. Here's a morning shot:

Family and friends have been extremely generous with their hand-me-downs.  We haven't had to buy Joan a stitch of new clothing yet!  She looks so cute in some of her outfits.  This picture is a favorite because the outfit, still a little big,  is so cute!  We think Joan resembles McDonald's "Hamburgler" here.

Joan likes to sleep on her back, or occasionally on her side.  Since we're told that babies need "tummy time" to build strong neck muscles, we try to give her the chance to exercise these from time to time.  Here's a favorite tummy shot:

While Joan isn't sure about tummy time, she is happy to be moved from place to place in her carseat (what a godsend those things are!) Here's a cute picture of her getting acquainted with it:

Happily, Joan is generally quite patient with Mom and Dad as they juggle their work schedules with baby care.  This shot captures Joan in one of her more contemplative moods! :)

Eventually, though, Joan gets a little tired of waiting around!

Joan's into movement, and she likes outings.  Here's Joan with her zonked dad getting ready to explore the big wide world.  (The cap was Mom's idea.)

At the end of the day, Joan generally leaves us tired but content. 

Taken on June 29, here's Joan getting ready for a bath, all wrapped up in the laundry. This one is a favorite of ours:

Joan keeps a pretty good attitude about her baths.  These are from July 22:

We liked to think we could pull one over on her, but you can see that as of July 26, Joan knew better!

As of early August, Joan was able to focus for long periods on an object of interest.  These were taken August 3 and 6:

She also began to try to crawl! Here she is on August 9th, feeling proud of her progress:

In a nod to tradition, here's Joan sporting a dress Mom wore when she was Joan's age (August 11):

A new nautically-themed hand-me-down arrived recently, and on August 13 we had to photograph her waking up in it. :)

She copes pretty well with her car seat, but her favorite sleeping posture is no surprise (from August 8):
